Children's Martial Arts
It’s never too early…
Our children’s program is geared around: Focus, Fitness, Fun and Character development!
Our unique belt-earning strategy is grounded in a positive reinforcement system that allows each child to set and attain short, mid, and long term goals.
The goals that we set with each child are three fold:
1. Physical – Improvement in balance, strength, conditioning, and precision
2. Mental – Improvement in focus, creative thinking, and memory
3. Emotional – Improvement in discipline, confidence, determination, and respect
Progress through our belts is built on predetermined improvement in all of these areas. Goals are individually created for each child based upon his/her needs, and recommendations to test for the next rank are based upon these goals. The goals are not limited to martial arts, but also include respect, focus, and following directions outside of our studio.
Our experience has shown that children that have enrolled in our martial arts training program have seen an improvement in their other sports, their academics, and other activities, as well as reduced the likelihood of them being a target of bullying.
Although many individuals may choose a martial arts studio based solely on geographic convenience or price, we feel that studying martial arts is a life learning experience that can have a profound impact on your child’s development. Therefore, we want to make sure you have all the facts before making this important decision. Because of the powerful influence a black belt instructor has on a child, this decision must not be made solely on the philosophy of the studio, but on the instructor’s training and actual ability to translate this philosophy to your child.
We do this through what we call the Martial Arts basics. Karate stances, kicks, punches, and blocking patterns are part of these basics. We believe in a strong foundation in the basic karate movements. The basic karate movements also dramatically improve your child’s focus and concentration skills. Although there are many instances where children are described as having “limited attention spans”, we believe that this is not an accurate description of the situation with the majority of children. In fact, most children are paying attention to everything around them at once. Therefore, our Kempo Karate training is not only essential for the Martial Arts, but is also an invaluable tool for concentration and focus.
Next and most important, United Studios believes in strong character development, the basic morals of caring for others, being kind, contributing to the family’s welfare and the importance of academics and strong leadership skills. This results in tremendous self esteem and respect for self and others, ensuring success not only in the Martial Arts but in many other important areas in your child’s life now and in the future. As you can see, our program is extremely comprehensive. United Studios’ instructors are continually trained in all areas of teaching, including both the physical and mental development of specific age groups.
TIGER CUBS 2 1/2 - 5 years
This childrens martial art program is geared towards the younger age group. Our fun lessons will improve eye-hand coordination, focus, self-discipline, and allow kids a chance to exercise and socialize with other students. This class gives the student the basic skills necessary to adapt to their ever changing environment. The Tiger Cub class is a 30 min. fun filled class. There is no belt testing for this group, instead when they have reached the skill necessary to move on, they will graduate to our next age category the Little Dragons. Each student receives a full uniform with your enrollment and is enrolled on a month to month basis.
This program is specially designed for children ages 6 to 12. It helps to improve children’s focus and listening skills, self-esteem, and gross motor skills. Students learn self-discipline in a fun, structured program that helps build self-control, balance, fitness and flexibility. We recognize that 6 to 12 year olds have very different developmental needs than their older counterparts in the Teen Program. The Junior program bridges that developmental gap and prepares students for the Teen Program.
This program focuses on improving not only basic motor skills, listening, and life skills, but challenges the student through the teaching and training of basic techniques, sparring, kata, and self-defense. These skills will help them enter society with confidence and other life skills. These skills we teach will help them succeed in any endeavors, including character attributes such as a positive attitude, responsibility, respect, commitment, courage, discipline, teamwork, integrity, and leadership. Children will learn the basic Childrens Martial Arts skills that will enhance their future Martial Arts training. Our Childrens Martial Arts training will also improve their ability to do sports and other activities, much more so than children who do not participate in this type of program. It will allow your child the added benefit of self-esteem and self-confidence and give them an outlet to channel their energy. Basic mental and physical self-defense is also addressed so you can feel good knowing your child will know what to do if approached by a stranger as well as if he/she is bullied on the playground.
